Former Fresno State head womens basketball coach Adrian Wiggins speaks exclusively with George Takata about his new opportunity with the Clovis East High boys program. Here's the official news release from the Clovis Unified School District:

Monday, January 7 officials with Clovis East High School and Clovis Unified School District announced the hire of former Fresno State women’s basketball coach Adrian Wiggins to a teaching and coaching position with the District.  Wiggins will begin teaching for Clovis Unified at the Clovis Online School immediately, and on July 1 will assume head coaching responsibilities for the Clovis East High School boys’ basketball program.  The Clovis Online School is a charter school operated by Clovis Unified serving students from Fresno and surrounding counties in grades 9-12.  Wiggins will teach social science for the school, utilizing his five years of classroom teaching experience gained at the collegiate level.

After meeting with approximately a half dozen candidates for the head coaching position left vacant when Clovis East coach Tim Amundsen resigned in September, Principal Darin Tockey recommended Wiggins as his top choice to Superintendent Dr. Janet Young.  While Wiggins’ teaching responsibilities will begin in January, he will not take the reins of the boys’ basketball program until July 1.  “Interim coach Mike Gregory is doing a great job with the team, and we aren’t interested in making a change mid-stride,” said Principal Darin Tockey.  Between now and when Wiggins takes on the Varsity coaching role July 1, he will be available to support Gregory and the current Clovis East coaching staff and student athletes.
