While this memorial is a reminder of the workers killed in the shooting,
across the street at Valley Protein employees are back at work trying their best to move on.

"The supervisors keep coming around and asking everybody if they're alright or if they need to step aside," said one employee.

Some employees even showed up as early as 5 AM to start their work day.

"The general consensus is that, obviously it's tough for everyone to deal with, but they seem to be getting through it,"

For Shawn Strength, getting back to work wasn't exactly easy especially since he witnessed his co worker get shot and then made eye contact with the gunman.

"He looked right at me, I though for sure he was going to come for me," Strength said.

During lunch  break the supervisors talked with their staff about the incident, and walked around the meat plant to make sure employees are doing ok.

"It's better to talk about it than let everybody stew over it in their own mind."

For the most part, employees are staying  busy with work they say it helps keep their minds off that tragic day.

"I think it will all come out of it and we'll be alright," Strength said.
