A traffic stop turns into a police chase Thursday morning in Fresno. It happened at Ashcroft and John Albert, off Gettysburg, between Cedar and the Highway 168.
An officer tried to stop the suspect for speeding through a school zone but the suspect drove off and the officer followed. The suspect then ditched the car and took off running.
Fresno Police Officer Tom Rowe "As the suspect fled, he was armed with a handgun, he was carrying a pistol in his hand. He jumped through some nearby residences." Police searched the area and found the suspect in a home. He had shaved his head in an attempt to change his appearance.
Police also found the gun he was carrying.
The nearby school, Vinland Elementary, was on lockdown for a short time.
