A big donation is keeping officers in the saddle.

The Fresno Police Department's mounted patrol unit received a $15,000 check on Wednesday.

The donation is from River Park Properties.

Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said, "We are thankful that today we are going to be able to continue to utilize our mounted patrol in this community as a results of citizens that have stepped forward."

Three years ago, the unit was almost cut because of budget restraints, but it has been kept afloat through community support.

The mounted officers are on patrol at shopping centers and community events.
