A Madera County woman is accused of a disturbing case of animal cruelty.
A witness called the Madera County Sheriff's Department saying 39-year-old Janice Aguilar slammed a puppy's head on the ground and then stuffed the animal into a backpack.
Aguilar later got a ride into Oakhurst, claiming she was going to a vet, but instead the severely injured puppy was left in a park.
Madera County Sheriff's Department public information officer Erica Stuart said, "This woman was seen slamming this dog's head into the ground to the point where it popped an eye out."
The puppy was so severely injured that it had to be put down.
Aguilar was booked into the Madera County Jail.
