A 10-year-old Avenal boy, not wearing a seat belt, died when a flat tire caused his mother to lose control and flip on I-5.
The CHP says the tread on the tire separated south of Derrick Avenue near Coalinga.
There were six people riding in the SUV and Even and two siblings were ejected.
Investigators say the children in the back seat were not wearing seat belts.
Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor.
