Now in its fifth year, the City of Fresno has refined its cooling center process and will provide free swimming, bus transportation and extended hours at four community centers all summer when temperatures reach 105 degrees or higher. The operation of the City cooling centers is made possible through a $21,000 donation from PG&E.

When the National Weather Service (NWS), forecasts a high of 105 degrees or hotter, the city will activate four cooling centers strategically located throughout the city. The cooling centers will be available from noon - 8:00 p.m. In addition, the City of Fresno FAX bus system will provide free transportation along normal routes to and from the cooling center sites. To ride free, residents must indicate they are traveling to a cooling center. Individuals should refer to the FAX schedule to determine the final evening departure time for buses providing service near Cooling Center locations.

PARCS department will provide free swimming from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at its four standard pool locations (Airways, Mosqueda, Mary Ella Brown and Frank H. Ball).

When the forecast is below 105 degrees, city officials will monitor conditions throughout the day and may call for activation at any time if urgent public health and safety issues arise. Additionally, the city is working closely with the National Weather Service to ensure that the public advertised forecast is consistent with the forecast used to determine cooling center status. The public can refer to the City of Fresno’s website www.fresno.gov or call 621-CITY to confirm cooling center activations.

Why do you post the names of cooling centers on your web page, when most people who need to go to these, probably do not have a computer because they can barely afford electricity let alone a computer. You need to post along the bottom of the tv screen when you are airing your newcast. Most elderly do not have computers to log on to your website

It would be nice if there was a cooling center in Hanford & Lemoore.
