Mixed reaction to a bold statement posted high enough for all to see.
It's placed right outside the Lyons Magnus building in Downtown Dresno owned by Bob Smittcamp, clearly stating his opinion on the President.
it reads: "This business was built without government help...Obama can....well....you get the point.
"The language is meant to draw attention to the fact that under Obama administration, our country is bankrupt," Bob Smittcamp said.
It's this recent statement President Obama made regarding successful businesses that prompted him to post the strongly worded sign, and Smittcamp says he has no regrets.
" The sign is simply to make people aware that small business owners don't agree with that statement," said Smittcamp.
The Democric party says the Presidents statement was taken out of context.
" Nobody has achieved what they achieved by themselves. They've had support in one way or another. That's the message the President was trying to convey," said Brandon Sisk of Fresno Democratic Party.
Political analyst Don Larson believes these types of messages can backfire no matter what political party it comes from.
" It's a reflection on the individual making the statement than they are the person they are attacking," said Larson.
The Democratic party says while everyone is entitled to their own opinion there's a thin line between freedom of speech and disrespect.
" We need to respect the office of the President. While we are entitled to our own opinion, we need to remain respectful," Sisk said.
Smittcamp stands by his sign and the right to publicly display his opinion.
" It's meant to draw attention to the policy of Obama. Has nothing to do with office of President," said Smittcamp.

Poor Smittcamp... He can have his banner. We'll take America & the White House. I just want him to know that he'll be long dead before another Republican will win a Presidential Election. My name is Frankie Serrano & I want Bob to know that he can kiss my BUM and that I and America approve this comment.

Why is that the left only has a problem with opinions that do not match what they want to hear? Any opposing opinion is a racist, libelous and/or slanderous remark. "Nobody has achieved what they achieved by themselves. They've had support in one way or another. That's the message the President was trying to convey" said Brandon Sisk of Fresno Democratic Party. Yeah, Bob Smittcamp had the help of his family, friends and employees. Nearly any successful business owner has succeeded in SPITE of the government, not because of it. This especially rings true in California! Finally, I must comment on the (lack of) quality with which this article was written. I have never been to "Downtown Dresno". There are other spelling and grammatical erros. I am not an English professor, but I am educated enough to know poor writing when I see it. And there is no mention of any evidence of this "heated discussion" that the headline claims. Keep on practicing. The author may become a good reporter/writer with experience. (No, that is NOT a personal attack. It is constructive critique.)

Our federal govt long ago quit respecting our rights, our freedoms, and the law of the land (constitution) that is supposed to limit what the govt can do. We do not exist and have rights because the govt lets us; it's supposed to be the other way around. Elitists like Obama, who haven't earned an honest dollar in their lives, need to get the message that it is people like Mr. Smittcamp who, by virtue of their hard work and risk-taking with their own money, create jobs and improve our economy and our lives. If it wasn't for business owners and the employees they hire, earning money and paying taxes, our economy would be worse than it is. Obama and Romney and others keep spending and going in debt, fiddling while our economy burns, and we're supposed to respect them? The only person worth voting for is Ron Paul and you see what the RNC did to him. Thanks Mr. Smittcamp, keep up the good work!!

“…there's a thin line between freedom of speech and disrespect.”? Really? Show me where “respect” is guaranteed by the Constitution… There is nothing like an attempt at censorship… under the guise of high minded indignation…!!! While one might want to have respect for the Office of the President… that doesn’t mean one has to have respect for the fool who’s in it.

Obama has consistantly showed a disrespect towards buinesses, the constitution and the American people. I think that Mr. Smittcamp has a right to his opinion and the right to voice that opinion. I also agree with him and Obama can kiss mine too.

Why have a heated discussion, just print your opposing opinion on a large banner and hang it on your own huge manufacturing building that you built. Equal freedoms of opinion......Unless you haven't built a large, local business like Lyons-Magnus of Fresno.
