Grim news out of the City of Atwater

38 city employees get pink slips and a fiscal emergency is declared, setting the stage for bankruptcy protection.

The actions came during a heated city council meeting Wednesday night.

Angry citizens blamed the council for not doing enough to protect their city, accusing council members of reckless spending.

But council members say they’re forced to consider more lay offs and concessions. The city only has 80 employees.

The move opens the door to a bankruptcy filing.

CBS 47’s Lemor Abrams has more on the decisions and what’s next.
