The sights, sounds, and spirit of Christmas are alive in Clovis.

The City of Clovis lit its 40-foot tall Redwood Christmas tree Monday evening.

Dozens of families came out for old fashioned holiday fun.

Christmas carols set the tone.

Families counted down with Santa and Clovis Mayor Jose Flores outside city hall.

The tree has been a symbol of unity for decades…since the city planted it 20 years ago.

“About 20 years ago, we planted a Redwood and its grown up quite nice and now this is a Christmas tree,” Public Works Manager Eric Aller said.

“I love being able to see peoples faces when you go sing...it's really fun to get to do things with all your friends...with family too,” said Bailey Douglas after singing in the Clark Intermediate School Choir.

Choir students from Clovis High School and Clark Intermediate School practiced all year for the big night.

There was something bigger and brighter about the ceremony.

“I'm more excited about just the holidays, I think I'm more excited than he is!” said Mona Coleman who came out to watch her husband set up the lighting for the City of Clovis.

The excitement comes on the same year the city celebrates its 100th birthday.
