Lyn Myers, assistant curator at the Fresno Chaffee Zoo, visited CBS47 This Morning to talk about precautions taken around dangerous animals.

CBS47 invited Myers to talk about the tragedy at Cat Haven in Dunlap on Wednesday.

24-year-old Dianna Hanson was mauled to death by a lion while inside the lion cage.

Myers said the Fresno Chaffee Zoo has a very different proceedure, not allowing keepers inside the cages with big cats. "Cats are designed for one thing out in the wild, and that is survival, and it doesn't remove it simply because you bring them into captivity," said Myers.

Myers also pointed out that the Chaffee Zoo also employs a two-person system where there are always two keepers attending the animals.

The Chaffee Zoo does not currently have an African Lion but Myers says a new exhibit is planned for as part of Measure Z and they expect to have lions and cheetahs in the future. Groundbreaking for the exhibit is planned for this summer.
