Fresno's 4th annual event kicked off on Tuesday and runs for four days.

The event is open to all military personnel and veterans from all over the Central Valley will be allowed to stay overnight on cots set up at the event.

Many of the veterans are just happy to be back home, but it hasn't been easy.

Stand Down coordinator Cheri Schuler said, "A lot of them don't know where to go to get help." That's where the Stand Down program comes in.

The 4-day event is designed to help veterans with the essential skills to help with employment opportunities, but the assistance goes beyond finding a job. Veteran services also include full course meals, showers, haircuts, and other personal hygiene supplies are provided. There is also help with applying for California ID cards and Social Security cards, which are vital when looking for a job.

They are even offering on-site vaccinations for any veterans who have dogs and need help with pet health costs.

The event runs through Friday and takes place at the VFW Post 8900 on Blythe Avenue between Ashlan and Dakota.
