Stolen cell phones are nothing new for Fresno and Shaw Cricket Store Manager Jose Orozeco, whose store was recently broken into.

"The value of the phones went up and like anything else when the value goes up there are people trying to take it," said Orozeco.

People like Raymond Regalado, who was arrested on Tuesday after police say he tried to snatch someone’s cell phone near Tulare and Maple.

"Within the last 28-days we have noticed a trend or an increase in the theft of cell phones," said Sgt. Mark Hudson with the Fresno Police Department.

Fresno police say there have been five reported cases of cell phone robberies in the first seven days of March and in many of the cases, the victims were either texting or on the phone. Something Hudson warns against.

And if your phone is stolen, there's an app for that. About a dozen different smart phones apps offer to help users track down their stolen phones, including anti droid theft for android phones and find my iphone for iphone users. Last ditch options Orozeco says he hopes his customers never have to use.

"We would prefer people to be a little bit more careful and hold on to their phone, purchase insurance when possible, but also don't leave your phone un-attended,” said Orozeco.
