The founder of the Cat Haven in Fresno County says his thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the 26-year-old intern who was killed in a lion attack. Dale Anderson was choking back tears as he spoke. The Cat Haven is a non-profit organization that's open to the public and provides tours to visitors. It utilizes employees, volunteers and interns to maintain the facility and car for the cats. It has been around for 15 years and has not had any safety issues. The male lion involved in the deadly attack named Cous Cous was hand-raised from a cub by Anderson. Cous Cous and a female lion, Pely, shared an enclosure. It is separted from visitors by a reinforced fence and a metal barrier with a sign warnng visitors not to get too close to the cage.
