State and federal health official are looking closely at dairy farms in Tulare County after a strain of bovine tuberculosis was detected in a herd.

The disease was spotted during a routine slaughter inspection.

The disease does not effect the safety of milk and meat products, but dairy farmers are still concerned.

"The reason its such a major concern is that humans have human TB, but they also have bovine TB. Likewise cows have human TB so it could pass back and fourth," Steve Maddox said.

Tuberculosis would only be passed to humans by drinking raw or unpasteurized milk.
