A 14-year-old boy is arrested in Mendota Saturday after the body of a missing 4-year-old boy is found inside a home off Tuft Avenue.
The discovery was made Saturday afternoon right next door to where Alex Mercado lived. The 4-year-old went missing near his home Friday afternoon. Crews from several agencies searched for him through the night.
Investigators found his body stuffed in a dryer inside his neighbor's home Saturday.
Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims said during the investigation, crews knocked on the door of the home and asked if anyone had seen Mercado. They were told no. Investigators went back to the home Saturday and asked permission to go inside. That's when they discovered Mercado's body, Mims said.
The cause of death is unknown.
