The United States Congress has new faces from the valley.

97 members of Congress were sworn in to the new 113th Congress Thursday.

And a few lawmakers from the valley are among them.

David Valadao posed for pictures on the capitol steps with 75 of his family and friends by his side.

A once in a lifetime  moment.

From dairy farmer on the valley floor… to the halls of Congress on Capitol Hill.

“I had my kids with me it was exciting... my wife was up on the balcony, my parents were there...and to look up and see him...it was an honor,” Valadao said.

The Republican from Hanford previously served in the state assembly.

He'll represent the 21st district ....parts of Kings and Kern counties.

“We're just very excited on David's new chapter in his life,” said Valadao’s friend Larry Serpa.

Two of his valley colleagues were also sworn in.

Republican Devin Nunes of Tulare County will tackle spending issues while representing the 22nd district.

“A whole series about 36 billion dollars of giveaways to special interests,” said Nunes.

Republican Tom McClintock represents the 4th district.

He offers this perspective:

“Every day when you leave the Capitol building...look over shoulder...and if a tingle...doesn't crawl up your spine...you need to go back up and write up your resignation...because that is the day that you've been here too long,” said McClintock.

Jim Costa returned to Congress, with a renewed sense of hope for a farm bill.

"I still farm today and I will continue to do everything I can to be an advocate for California agriculture," Costa said.

Democrats still control the Senate.

Republicans control the House.

But Costa believes Congress will get bipartisan support this term.
