Local developers are taking aim at the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).

They say the act is choking business development in the Central Valley and they're calling for widespread reform.

The group points to two local projects that have been put on hold because of the controversial act.

Darius Assemi, president of Granville Homes said, "This is a 28-unit townhouse infill project in downtown Fresno, which could be home to 28 families down the road, that has been stopped because of a CEQA lawsuit."

The Clovis Commons project was also halted for years because of CEQA concerns.

It's now open and adding more businesses.

CEQA was created 42 years ago and developers and city planners say it's time for an update.
