A suspect has been arrested for a brutal attack and rape of a woman in downtown Visalia.

Police say the suspect didn't know the victim he allegedly attacked and left for dead on the sidewalk.

Josue Hernandez-Estrada was booked for attempted murder and forcible rape.

Police say the victim, a 56-year-old Native American woman, was found around 4:30 a.m. Monday morning outside the popular Italian restaurant, Fugazzis in downtown Visalia.

The victim suffered from numerous facial and head injuries and is listed in critical but stable condition at a Fresno hospital.
