The Red Cross is helping displaced families after a fire at an apartment complex near Fresno and McKinley on Wednesday.

The fire started around 9:00 a.m. Wednesday morning at the complex located on East Weldon Avenue.

One of the residents said he allowed a homeless friend to stay the night and the two got into an argument.

Firefighters say the homeless man threatened to burn the building down. He lit a newspaper and some blankets on fire, which quickly spread.

The fire was contained to two apartment units out of the eight in the building.

The Red Cross is now providing food, shelter and support to the 10 adults and 7 children displaced by the fire.

Police are now looking for the suspect.

Damage is estimated around $150,000.

The apartment fire was one of three Wednesday morning.

Lewis Avenue Market near Fresno and Olive caught fire around 4:00 a.m. and there was also a fire at a home near Clinton and Blythe. Two people suffered minor injuries in that fire.
