Fresno-based Zacky Farms has filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The move would allow the company to remain in business while it works its way out of debt.

Zacky Farms blames the high cost of doing business and big debt as the main reasons for filing.

Zacky Farms employs nearly 1,500 people in several cities throughout the San Joaquin Valley.
