In Northern California, a series of intense storms flooded roads and knocked down big trees onto cars.

“Thankfully it didn't hurt anyone but could be worse,” a bystander said.

In the valley, the rain ruined commutes and even toppled the Christmas tree lot's panda bear, but it will get worse.

Meteorologists predict double the downpour this weekend, and preparations are in full swing.

“We've been stocking up on tarps all week, we have table full of tarps...sand out front,” said Jeff Haws at Orchard Supply.

Charlie Hemphill and his family retrofitted their home with tarps and sandbags, and moved onto the inside, with holiday decorations.

“See it'll be kind of cool, it's getting all stormy outside and you're decorating your tree,” said Hemphill.

Fresno’s game-guys are also hoping for a safe weekend indoors with board games.

“It's good for keeping friends together, families together and you always play inside...you need to do that!” said Marc Halverson.

“Usually just stay inside with my brothers...and play...” said Cole Williamson.

Fresno’s Public Works Dept. will have extra crews on standby, gearing up for possible valley mud slides and floods... as the next system pushes through.
