After a month a mourning, a sign of closure.
Family members thanked CHP officers for arresting this trio, relatives charged with their alleged involvement with the hit and run crash that killed 25-year-old Javier Acavedo and hiding the evidence.
“The suspects involved reported the vehicle stolen that is how the Visalia Police Department got involved,” Lt. Dave Knoff said.
Detectives found the suspected getaway car days after the crash at the suspects home.
They believe Bounmee Vangpanya struck and killed Acavedo as he walked along highway 198 when his car broke down, left the accident scene then reported the car stolen. His wife and brother accused of helping him cover it all up.
The details of the crime scene pulled from media reports.
“And without the help of witnesses who gave us our first small piece of information, the media who very quickly got our information out and request for our insistence on the air,” Knoff said.
"We know we can’t bring back our nephew, but this means a lot of closure to us,” Freddy Valdez said.
