Residents first heard gunshots and then a speeding car flying down Kenmore Drive South about 4:30 Wednesday afternoon.

“There was a guy down there lying in the street,” said a neighbor who heard gunshots.

“It’s pretty ridiculous how stuff like this happens,” said another neighbor fed up with crime.

Investigators found shell casings nearby.

But they say a young Hispanic man wasn't struck by bullets.

He was hit by a car.

The victim of a gang-related hit and run, investigators say.

“There were so many people involved that it's going to take us a while to sort it all out,” said Fresno County Sheriff’s Spokesman Chris Curtice.

Investigators searched for a white pick-up truck.

They say there were with a few people inside; and later spotted a few men trying to get away in different cars.

“Three vehicles were stopped, several detained and of right now it looks like may have at least two people in custody involved in initial disturbance when the subject was run over,” said Curtice.

But the search continues for the driver who hit the young man.

He remained hospitalized Wednesday night.

Neighbors believe he was targeted.

“I'm not scared to take a walk...there's lots of nice people…this one lady told me they've lived there about two years and she thinks they were pinpointing her cousin,” a neighbor said.
