A suspect armed with a knife was shot and killed by police early Wednesday morning.

Police got a call around 3:40 a.m. about a suspicious man running in the street, holding a large knife, in the area of Belmont and Abbey in Fresno.

When officers arrived, they found the man clutching a 12" kitchen knife, pounding it on an older model Cadillac, driven by a citizen who was just driving through the area.

A second officer arrived and attempted to distract the suspect but the man charged at the officer, who shot and killed the suspect.

The suspect has not been identified but investigators say he appears to be about 30-years-old.

Roads were closed around the crime scene for about 7 hours while investigators collected evidence.

Another example of a police officer over reacting to a problem. I was not there but common sense tels me a tazer would have been a much better choice. As my father once told me never take a knife to a gun fight. A bullet to the leg or a tazer would end the problem and a deranged man would be under arrest not dead.
