Police are investigating the first murder of the year in Visalia.

Family members walked into a home off Giddings Street around 8:45 p.m. and found the 23-year-old victim shot to death in their home.

Neighbors heard gunshots but did not see anything.

Investigators have little to go on at this point and police are trying to figure out if the victim was targeted.

Lt. Brian Winter with the Visalia Police Department said, "We did not locate any signs of forced entry and at this time we don't believe any property was taken from the residence."

It's unknown if the shooting is gang related.

The murder comes after a couple of shootings last weekend at the Visalia Mall and a drive by that injured a Hanford couple.
