NRA conference:  "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun."

It's the statement from the NRA that has people talking.

"I don't think that will help at all," Jeffrey Robinson said.

"Unless there's a law in place that stops everyone from getting their hands on a gun, then i don't know how it's going to stop in schools."

The NRA wants lawmakers to take action and put armed officers in all schools in an effort to curb school violence.

The Fresno County Office of Education thinks it's a good idea since most Fresno schools already have police officers on campus.

"If they were in need or see danger, they know they can go to a trained individual," Jim Yovino, Deputy Superintendent said.

Mike Spicer, a security consultant says it's not just about adding armed officers at schools.

"You need to get security people in there that know how to identify volunerability and make reccommendations," Spicer said.

Assemblymember Henrey T. Perea doesn't think the NRA's idea could work in the central valley.

"I don't know if school districts have the capacity to do that, and quite frankly our schools are not prisons," Perea said.

School officials say having armed officers on school campus has worked before.

"Anytime you partner with law enforcement, it's powerful for our school and community," Yovino said.

Have to agree w/ crzyfrank-police presence is at some of our Fresno schools and has worked well. If there were a trained individual on the campuses this alone would be a deterrent for criminals to come on those campuses. Criminals will have guns no matter what laws are in place-only the law abiding citizens will have them taken away.

Much research has been done and the only thing that reduces the harm done by a crazy gunman is CCW. If a person has a concealed wepon he or she can stop or reduce the harm done by someone trying to harm others. If you take the guns away from lawabiding people, only the criminal's will have guns and that is not a good thing.
