Lion kills female intern at Cat Haven

Update: Dale Anderson, founder of Project Survival's Cat Haven addressed the media Wednesday afternoon to provide updates concerning the deadly lion attack.

Anderson said the victim of the lion mauling was a volunteer intern. He did not give any details but did say the intern was a woman and said his heart went out to her friends and family.

CBS47's Katherine Herr is at the facility and will provide more details at 5 & 6:00 p.m.



One person was fatally mauled by a lion at the Cat Haven, animal sanctuary in Fresno County. 

The victim was an employee that was inside the lion cage.

It's unknown at this time why the employee was inside the cage and what led to the attack.

The victim's name has not been released.

The Fresno County Sheriff's Deputy responding to the call shot and killed the 4-year-old male lion named "Cous Cous." 

The lion was raised at the facility since he was 8-weeks-old.

The Fresno County Sheriff's Department and California Department of Fish and Game are investigating the deaths.

Cat Haven is located on Highway 180 in Dunlap, about 30 minutes east of Fresno.
