Students at Fresno's Manchester Gate Elementary School have been learning about the Colonial Period in a unique way.

This year, students researched and then re-lived the lives of colonial tradesmen and then made their presentations on Thursday.

Teacher Virginia Riding said, "They're learning that things were much more difficult back then and they found out that a lot of these jobs took a lot of time that now wouldn't take nearly as much time because we have power tools, and we have other materials and other supplies."

The teachers say the students learned more from this hands on experience than they would have from text books.
