A fire at Clovis West High School forced evacuations Wednesday night.

Fire crews were called to the campus around 7:30 p.m. They found the school's photo lab classroom in flames. Other classrooms were also damaged from the smoke.

There were about 50 students on campus for a lecture at the time of the fire. There was also a basketball practice taking place in the school gymnasium.

Fresno fire crews were on scene within minutes and quickly put the fire out but fire officials say the smoke cause quite a bit damage to the building.

Tim Fulmer with the Fresno Fire Department said, "The rest of the damage was actually throughout the whole entire building, where all the other classrooms are, like the screen printing room and other types of art classes -- we have heavy smoke damage."

School officials say the school will be open but some classes will be moved to other rooms temporarily.

Kelly Avants with the Clovis Unified School District said, "We have a plan in place for tomorrow. It will be fully developed before anyone leaves here tonight and we'll be ready for the kids tomorrow morning."
