Politicians maybe reaching out to a growing population in California.

Asians are now the largest immigrant group in the state.

According to the latest census figures in 2011, 57 percent of immigrants were from Asia. Twenty-two percent were from latin america.

The figures don't distinguish between those here legally or illegally.

The asian political influence is already being felt.

"The Asian-American community is coming of age. They're really becoming politicized and they're becoming aware of political empowerment and they understand it too and so they're working on campaigns amd they're getting their people elected," Assembly member Paul Fong said.

Asians represent about 14 percent of California's population and 10 percent of state lawmakers.
