The stomach, hips, and thighs are the most commonly treated areas in liposuction, and generally respond well to the procedure. These regions tend to store fat efficiently, even in many people of otherwise normal weight. The stomach, hips, and thighs may therefore be the first place to exhibit any weight gain, and the last place to show weight loss. In some individuals, the fat is almost impossible to get rid of through conventional means like dieting and exercise. Therefore, liposuction provides a means of re-shaping the lower body and bringing these regions into proportion with the rest of the figure. Deposits of fat on the stomach can be greatly improved by liposuction, assuming there's no excess skin and elasticity is good. If large folds of skin are present or skin tone is poor, a more complicated procedure called a 'tummy tuck' may be required. Women in particular may notice projections of fat on the hips referred to as 'saddlebags', and liposuction can help re-contour this area, creating a more graceful line. The procedure can also be used to slim the outer thighs, inner thighs, or both.
