As teenagers make the transition from adolescence to adulthood, they often experience a number of psychological and emotional pressures that cause stress and anxiety in their lives. Often these pressures translate into conflict at home, and it's not unusual for teens to engage in disputes, arguments, and even shouting matches with their parents. Although this sort of behavior can be extremely frustrating, it's generally short-lived, and parents and teens are able to resolve their differences. However, in some cases, a teen's behavior may exceed tolerable levels. Teens may become unresponsive, angry, and even physically violent. When teenagers become abusive toward their parents, something needs to be done. Parents shouldn't have to live in fear of their children. Teenagers who are out of control are a danger to themselves and others. Parents who attempt to hide or ignore the problem in the hope that it will go away are doing themselves and their teen a great disservice. Abusive teens have serious emotional problems and need psychological therapy or counseling. Parents who are being threatened or abused by their teens shouldn't hesitate to report the behavior to proper authorities. Ultimately, this is likely to be in everybody's best interest. For more information, consult a health care professional in your area.
