Dizziness is a symptom of another underlying condition. Once the cause is found, there are a number of remedies available. The simplest and least threatening condition is called positional dizziness, the feeling of light-headedness that occurs when you stand up suddenly after sitting or lying down. Your doctor can prescribe a series of conditioning exercises, possibly accompanied by medication. One common condition is Meniere's Disease, a disease of the ear which upsets the sense of balance. The dizziness in this condition is frequently accompanied by partial hearing loss or ringing in the ears. This can generally be controlled through medication or simple surgery. More serious causes of dizziness can include anything from severe ear problems to a brain tumor. When you have a dizzy spell, try and remember any other symptoms that might occur at the same time, such as headache or nausea. Your doctor or a specialist will need to know as many details as possible in order to cure your dizziness.
