Oscar-winner Morgan Freeman is to be honored for his career achievements at California's 21st Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival.
The Million Dollar Baby star will receive the coveted Career Achievement Award for Acting at the festival's award gala on January 5, at the Palm Springs Convention Center.
The festival was founded in 1990 by the city's then-Mayor, singer-songwriter Sonny Bono, who turned his career toward politics before his 1998 death.
Festival chairman Harold Matzner says, "The Palm Springs International Film Festival is honored to present Hollywood legend Morgan Freeman with the Career Achievement Award for his large and extraordinary body of work and his many memorable performances throughout the years."
The Awards Gala will kick off the festival, which runs through January 18.
