TIM DERUYTER: our fans are going to be excited because you're going to see things happening at a pace quite frankly you haven't seen in a long long time - I had a chance to meet with some of our players earlier - I think they're excited about the opportunities.

Tim DeRuyter has a lot of work to do.

The dead period starts December 19th, so the Bulldogs’ new head football coach now has four days to contact recruits.

He can't do that again until January 4th.

Oh, he also has to get Texas A&M ready for a bowl game, hire a staff here, find a house, and shake hands and kiss babies.

No rest allowed.

Here’s his main goal going forward.

TIM DERUYTER: our number one goal is to win conference championships - that's going to be clear to our players - every single week we want to win but our number one goal and they will know it all year long is to win the mountain west conference.

The players met with DeRuyter Wednesday afternoon, and they like what they've seen and heard so far.

They want to get the season started already.

Quarterback Derek Carr met with DeRuyter before leaving for New York for winter break.

The rest of the team met him at the Save Mart Center.

JALEN SAUNDERS: he's very energetic - i'm exactly like that so i'm just excited for that.

TRAVIS BROWN: it gets our whole team fired up - i'm the type of guy that gets excited when I have to prove myself so once I see a new guy, a new face come in I just know i've gotta go in and show this guy what I can do.

ROBBIE ROUSE: we have a new guy running the show - we're excited - we can't wait for it to start.

The hiring process has been questioned by many former Bulldog players turned coaches who applied for the job but did not get calls returned.

Kelly Skipper, J.D. Williams, Steve Mooshagian and Jethro Franklin all applied.

Here's what Fresno State Athletic Director Thomas Boeh had to say about that.

THOMAS BOEH: if they're not moving forward in our process it's very difficult when we have just 9 or 10 days to conduct the search - to spend time with candidates that have not made it through that first part of the process, the initial screening, in terms of background and things like that - there's a lot of people disappointed.

TIM DERUYTER: i'm bulldog born, bulldog bred, and i'm gonna be a bulldog 'till the day i'm dead. Go dogs!
