Ryan Flores was back home on Thursday night, albeit briefly, in a rare college wrestling dual at Clovis North High School.
Flores, the nation's top-ranked heavyweight at American University and the national runner-up last year, is a former standout at Buchanan High School. Now he's a standout at American, which is passing through the valley on a "California swing."
On Thursday, American matched up with Cal State Bakersfield and won the dual, 26-16. Flores pinned his opponent, freshman Steven Wood from Lemoore, in 2:54 to improve to 6-0 this season.
Five of those wins are by pins.
"To be able to come back here, my old stomping grounds and have some fun, and put on a show for some people, it was really nice," said Flores. "I think it's making my season that much more enjoyable."
