Tim DeRuyter is just the fourth head football coach at Fresno State in the last 35 years.
He understands the tradition, called on the program's alumni to be part of the new transition, and will implement a spread offense and 3-4 defense.
The main goal: win championships.
And he can't wait to get started.
TIM DERUYTER: couldn't be more excited about this opportunity - taking over the program here at fresno state is a dream for me.
FOR TIM DERUYTER TO BE A DREAM COME TRUE FOR BULLDOG FOOTBALL FANS... ALL HE HAS TO DO IS WIN.
EASIER SAID THEN DONE.
THE BULLDOGS HAVEN'T WON A CONFERENCE TITLE SINCE 1999... OR A BOWL GAME SINCE 2007.
BUT WITH QUARTERBACK DEREK CARR IN THE MIX... WHO MET WITH DERUYTER EARLIER IN the DAY... AND A NEW 3-4 PHILOSOPHY ON DEFENSE... THE FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT.
AND DERUYTER WANTS TO WIN RIGHT AWAY.
TIM DERUYTER: we're gonna compete every single day - there's going to be new energy and new enthusiasm around here, but the standards off the field will not drop one iota.
ROBBIE ROUSE: it seems like he's real excited to be here and it made us feel good because we're just excited to have someone in here because we've been waiting for a new coach ever since everything happened with coach hill - to see his excitement and to see he's real excited to be here makes us excited at the same time.
TRAVIS BROWN: right now i'm fired up - i'm excited to go out there and show this guy what we can do and what I can do.
TIM DERUYTER: I like having challenges and I want to have a team where our players embrace challenges.
DeRuyter signed a five year deal that will pay him a base salary of 650-thousand dollars a year.
If he meets performance bonuses, that could jump into the million dollar range.
