San Diego State has decided to stay in the Mountain West for all sports, which also means there will be 12 football schools in the conference

The Aztecs were set to leave for the Big East on July 1st but they have re-joined Boise State in the Mountain West, which is fast becoming the strongest non-BCS conference in the nation.

Mountain West Commissioner Craig Thompson said, "We got the band back together."

League presidents approved San Diego State's return to the league Wednesday afternoon.

With 12 schools in the Mountain West Conference for football, they could be divided into two divisions.

One possible scenario would have an east division with Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, New Mexico, Utah State and Wyoming. And the Pacific division would be made up of Fresno State, Hawaii, Nevada, San Diego State, San Jose State and UNLV.

They want to play a championship game in 2013 but still need to vote on that. Athletics Director Thomas Boeh at Fresno State is all for it. "Absolutely, yeah - we think a championship game is the best idea for Fresno State and clearly what's best for the Mountain West Conference as we become a real legitimate contender throughout the country."
