The Alan Ahmady era is officially over at Fresno State. Ahmady signed with the St. Louis Cardinals and we will now wait to see where his first minor league home will be.
The St. Louis post dispatch reports most of the cardinals’ draft picks will report this week and be farmed out to such short-season teams as Batavia Illinois and Johnson City Tennessee. They also report Batavia tends to be the landing spot for the more-polished college players.
The Clovis West grad hit .326 in 50 games for Fresno State with 8 homers and 53 batted in.
Ahmady drove in 92 runs last year, second best in the nation.
Another All American accolade for former Fresno State third baseman Tom Mendonca, named a third team all American by Baseball America.
Tom was named a second team all American by Louisville Slugger and Collegiate Baseball Magazine a couple of weeks ago.
Mendonca hit .339 and led the team with 27 home runs en route to the WAC MVP award. He is also the Bulldogs all time home run king with 56.
While at Fresno State, Mendonca won three WAC tournament championships, two WAC league championships and a national title.
He was drafted in the second round by the Texas Rangers and is expected to sign with them, ending his Bulldog career.
