1992 was the year Fresno State joined the Western Athletic Conference.  On Sunday, the Bulldogs officially join the Mountain West Conference, which wasn't even around in 1992.

It was founded in 1999 and most of its charter members came from the WAC.

A lot of those schools are still there, and in two days they'll be joined by Nevada, Hawai'i for football and Fresno State.

"We're excited about the Bulldogs coming in because of their overall athletic history in several sports, team sports, etc," said MWC Commissioner Craig Thompson.  "And again we have a familiarity with the Bulldogs, we've been playing them in some cases for 50, 60, 70 years."

70 years ago, Fresno State was in the California Collegiate Athletic Association and was in Division-II.
