Former Fresno State Coach Boone Dies

Former Fresno State head football coach J.R. Boone has passed away.

Boone coached the Bulldogs from 1973 to 1975.

The former NFL player is a member of the Fresno Athletic Hall of Fame.

Boone was drafted in two different sports by the Chicago Bears and the New York Yankees but he choose football. He played for the Bears 1948-51 and also played for the San Francisco 49ers in 1952 and the Green Bay Packers in 1953.

After his playing days, Boone began coaching in the San Joaquin Valley. He coached at Selma, Lindsay and Sanger High before becoming the coach at Reedley College and then Fresno State.

J.R. Boone was 86-years-old.
