Tim DeRuyter has found the guy he hopes can replace Tim McDonald.

Of course, how you do replace a Fresno native and 13-year NFL veteran?

With David Brown, that's how.

Brown is the new Fresno State defensive backs coach, coming from Missouri Science and Technology where he's been the head coach since 2010.

Missouri S&T is a Division-II school.

Coach Brown talked to CBS47 on Monday and said he's excited to come back to California. (He's from Los Angeles.)

Brown also coached at Cal Poly for five years, first as the linebackers coach and later as the defensive coordinator.

In-between his stints at Cal Poly and Missouri S&T, Brown spent four seasons as the defensive backs coach at Ohio where he worked with Pete Germano, the Bulldogs' current defensive line coach and special teams coordinator.

By the way, spring football for the Bulldogs starts one week from Monday (Feb 25th).
