There has been a coaching change on the Fresno State football team's staff: defensive coordinator Randy Stewart has stepped down.
Stewart had been at Fresno State since 2001, and held the position of defensive coordinator the past three seasons. He has coaching experience dating back to the 1980s but, as coach Pat Hill said in a statement on Sunday night, change was needed.
"Today, Randy Stewart has decided to step down as defensive coordinator at Fresno State," said Hill in a news release. "Together, we looked at our defense over the past year and a half and he said we were making progress, but it was not going as we had hoped over the past four weeks and a change was needed.
"Randy has been a valuable part of this staff since 2002, taking over after Dan Brown's long battle with cancer...Randy will remain an assistant until his contract terminates, helping in recruiting and film breakdown of upcoming opponents."
Linebackers coach Tim Skipper will take over as defensive coordinator for the three remaining games this season.
A university spokesperson told CBS47 that Coach Stewart resigned, he was not fired.
