James Sanders sent out two tweets on Monday: one thanking Patriots fans for their love, the other asking if any NFL team needs a starting safety.
Sanders, a six-year NFL veteran, was cut by New England on Monday.
The Patriots, the only team Sanders has played for, drafted the former standout at Monache High School and Fresno State in the fourth round back in 2005. He played in 84 games for the Patriots from 2005-2010, starting 49 of them.
He was scheduled to make $2.8 million dollars this year.
"James has been a really good guy to have on this team, a hard-working kid," said Patriots coach Bill Belichick. "
It's just part of the moves. We needed to release some people and he was a tough one."
