The Fresno State defense has lost one of its best players, possibly for the entire season. Starting safety Phillip Thomas broke his leg on Wednesday during a non-contact drill.
Thomas could miss 8-to-12 weeks. He played a huge role in the Bulldogs' secondary last year: 64 tackles, nine for a loss, 3 interceptions, 9 pass breakups and 2 forced fumbles.
He played in all 13 games.
According to the depth chart, junior Cris Wilson is next in line to take Thomas' place in the starting lineup.
