On Wednesday night, CBS47 aired a story about a man who is accused of attacking a couple while dressed in a CHP uniform. As part of the story, we mentioned a website called CHP Consignment Store which sells CHP uniforms online.
We want to clarify-
That website did not sell the uniform to the suspect in that assault and were not involved with the crime in any way.
As part of our story we said there is no ID required when purchasing a CHP uniform through that site.
That is incorrect.
We've learned the company verifies all purchases through a CHP data base and requires buyers to prove they have a CHP identification card.
The company issued a statement to CBS47 which they state:
"CHP Consignment Store assures all its sellers, buyer, the California Highway Patrol and the general public, that it maintains the highest ethical standard in regard to its business. It will continue to do so and any inquires are welcome to further explain the process."
CBS47 regrets the error.
