The race heats up for the Fresno City Council District 5 seat.

Luis Chavez announced over the weekend that he too is running for the seat held by Mike Dages, who will leave the office because of term limits.

Chavez is a graduate of Roosevelt High School with a Masters in Public Administration from Fresno State.

Chavez said, "We are a community of diverse background. We must come together and work together as one community."

Chavez says he will host community events and go door to door to meet his potential constituents.

The District 5 race is a popular one with six others vying for the spot.
