Doors opened to students on Monday to a brand new elementary school named after General Vang Pao.
Van Pao Elementary School is located on Cedar Avenue, just south of Butler Avenue.
Principal Teressa Calderon said, "All the students that were at Southeast Elementary, it was all portables, so ten buses every day to and from because they were all students from this area, so they were bused to and from the school over there. And so then all the students now, this is a community school - a neighborhood school, so it's awesome for them."
The Hmong leader died early last year.
