High drop out rates could force the state community college system to make some major changes.

A task force report shows only 54% of students finish and just 41% make it to a four year school.

Drop out rates are among the highest among black and Latino students with only 31% percent graduating.

California Community College Chancellor Jack Scott said, “We want to prioritize registration. We recognize now that many students are being turned away that maybe we ought to give individuals who are seeking transfer or seeking job improvement, ought to be given first bite of the apple."

Because of the state budget, course fees have increased from $36 to $46 per unit.

Well now that is an idea! Give priority to those students that are actually there to make something of themselves instead of those just there filling a space! Also the state might want to stop handing out money to those that will probably never succeed in becoming a contributing member of society and helping out those that will accomplish their goals in becoming something and joining tax paying work force!
